Accelerated Science Courses
Many of the resources for accelerated courses will also be appropriate for students enrolled in standard courses. Advanced courses are designated as accelerated by the increased instructional pacing and depth of content. The difference may be in the level of independence expected of students and the amount of time activities may take. Because students can be expected to cover the material more independently and at a greater depth, teachers may have the opportunity to explore enrichment topics. All students, not just those in accelerated courses, should experience challenging work, engage in the science and engineering practices, and use the crosscutting concepts. All students will be assessed on the same Grade 8 Science CRT, which will address the three-dimensional nature of the NVACS Science.
Students enrolled in accelerated courses are expected to:
• learn the material in the standard-level courses at greater depth;
• work more independently than students in standard-level courses;
• complete more independent in-depth scientific investigations.
